A sleepy commuter town in Buckinghamshire that supposedly out-haunts every castle and asylum you can name, purely on the sheer volume of moving furniture and unhappy spirits. I adore the pure audacity of somewhere billed as the most haunted place on Earth sitting twenty minutes down the motorway from London. Am I skeptical? Deeply. Would I spend one single night there? Absolutely not, and I resent being asked.

Amersham, a small town about 30 miles north of London, England, is reputed to be the most haunted town in the world. In this sleepy village, tucked away in rural Buckinghamshire, ghosts appear, tables move and the spirits are everywhere. It appears there never was a time when Amersham wasn’t haunted. What is it about this English town in rural Buckinghamshire? Why do so many people of a bygone age haunt its streets and the corridors of its ancient inns.
