This is a quieter Snowden film, built around a secret 2017 meeting between the whistleblower and a couple of global civil-rights campaigners, weighing the freedom-fighter label against the traitor one. I have made my peace with the fact that he is both, depending on who you ask. What is not up for debate is that the surveillance machine he exposed was real and hidden. Thoughtful and still, a good counterweight to the thriller version everyone else sells.
