It was never meant to be a revolution. The A350 started life as a rushed A330 upgrade, a stopgap response to Boeing’s flashy new Dreamliner while Airbus clung to four engines and superjumbos. Airlines hated it. Orders stalled. And in Toulouse, one of the biggest bets in aviation history was quietly scrapped and restarted from zero. What came next rewrote Airbus’s future. A clean-sheet carbon-fibre widebody that could challenge the 787 and the 777 at the same time.
