The Knights Templar: Rise to Downfall

In the early 12th century, around 1119, a small group of knights founded the Order of the Temple in Jerusalem, forming a unique brotherhood devoted to protecting Christian pilgrims in the Holy Land. Officially recognized by the Church at the Council of Troyes in 1129, the Knights Templar quickly gained influence. As both monks and warriors, they lived under strict religious rules while fighting in the Crusades, becoming one of the most respected military orders of the Middle Ages.
