The dawn of the jet age was fueled by intense Cold War military demands that permanently altered the commercial aviation landscape. In the 1950s, the US Air Force required a swept-wing jet tanker capable of keeping pace with their new fleet of fast bombers. Enter the secretive Boeing Dash 80 prototype, a massive gamble that eventually led to the legendary KC-135 Stratotanker and the passenger-carrying 707.
