To avoid a costly divorce and protect his personal assets and custody of his children, Connecticut pilot Richard Crafts bludgeoned his flight attendant wife Hela to death, froze her body, and destroyed her remains using a chainsaw and commercial wood chipper. In November 1986, a quiet New England town was hit by a massive snowstorm that masked a terrifying secret. When flight attendant and mother Hela Crafts vanished without a trace, her husband claimed she had flown abroad to visit family.
